Maslenica and the Novigrad Sea
Boat excursions begin in the port of Maslenica, an authentic Dalmatian village situated at a unique junction of sea, river and mountain. Maslenica is known for its imposing Maslenica bridges, centuries-old olive groves and the olives that gave it its name. Far from the crowds of mass tourism, this is the perfect starting point for a leisurely cruise through one of the most beautiful areas of the Adriatic.
We sail from the port across the Novigrad Sea, one of the most scenic and peaceful parts of the Zadar archipelago. This small enclosed sea is surrounded by Velebit mountain and a dramatic karst landscape. The area is also known for its Novigrad mussel farm, beside which we sail during the excursion.
Sailing the Novigrad Sea is ideal for families and all those who love to enjoy calm waters without large waves and crowds. The sheltered location ensures calm sailing even when the open Adriatic is somewhat rougher.
The Zrmanja River and the town of Novigrad
Sailing through the Zrmanja River canyon is the absolute highlight of every excursion. The Zrmanja River is one of the most beautiful and photogenic rivers in Croatia, known for its unforgettable emerald green colour, dramatic canyons and completely unspoilt nature. The river is part of the protected Velebit Nature Park.
The Zrmanja is world-famous as the primary filming location of the legendary Winnetou films from the 1960s. Films, series and commercials are still shot here today thanks to the authentic beauty that has remained unchanged for decades. During the cruise through the canyon you will feel a special peace and the majesty of nature.
After sailing through the Novigrad Sea and the Zrmanja River we arrive at Novigrad – a historic gem nestled deep in a peaceful bay. Surrounded by old stone houses, narrow Mediterranean streets and unspoilt nature, Novigrad exudes a genuine Dalmatian spirit. The town is known for the medieval fortress Fortica, its fishing tradition and a rich history stretching from the Bronze Age to the present day.
Maslenica bridges and swimming in the sea
At the end of the cruise we pass under the Maslenica bridges that connect northern and southern Croatia – a spectacular sight that few have the opportunity to see from the sea. The old and the new bridge, each with its own story, dominate the landscape and create unforgettable photo moments.
After passing under the bridges we reach the open Adriatic Sea where a magnificent combination of Velebit mountain and crystal-clear water awaits you. Here you experience the true Dalmatian landscape in all its beauty – dramatic cliffs, hidden coves and the endless blue sea.
